Welcome to Portsmouth Volleyball Club

The season is coming to an end and it has been very exiting and fruitful year for the club.

The National League ladies team are still in the running for promotion back into top flight volleyball.  The team also welcomed highly qualified coach Dave Willoughby who brings a new view on coaching and how we play our game.  We are sure it won't take long before we see us playing with our heads a bit more!.

Dave just has to learn how to shut Jayne up so he can get his views across!

In local league both men and ladies are on course to win their respective leagues.  The local league ladies have been coached under Carol Bragg and over the last few matches has seen new players playing their first matches for the club and have performed well.  The men have yet to drop a game and have just 2 left to play to win top spot, but will have a tough game against Stray Cats who also could win the league.  If the teams do win their leagues they will go forward to represent Hampshire in the SEVA Cup in April

The junior sessions are still working well and although we still don't have a huge amount of kids training yet, we are working hard on making links with local schools and after Easter Jayne will be going to Admiral Lord Nelson School to do 6 weeks of free coaching to years 7 & 8, plus work is going ahead to join up with Cowplain School and provide a permanent Junior Club at the school after the club ran a very successful 3 weeks of sessions.

One of the junior players Jack Smith has been selected to play for the South East Juniors and will be playing in his first tournament in May, where he has a chance of getting selected for the England South Team and there will also be England Scouts watching for the England Cadet Team - so good luck Jack,

The club is still waiting to hear when the Premier League for Sports funding will begin.  This will provide much needed income for the club to promote Junior Training and provide more junior clubs within the area.

In the next few months the club will be sending 5 coaches to gain their Level 2 qualification and around 3 others to get their first coaching qualification, some will also be attending a Referee's Course.  Head Coach Jayne is also attending the FIVB Coaching course in August.

The club has also entered the Men and a second Ladies team, which are mainly the local league teams now, into the National League Div 3 which starts in September,  So both teams are working hard at training and arranging as many friendly matches as they can to prepare themselves for what is ahead of them.

The club is still looking for new players to join the squads, although mainly the men and juniors are required, but no one will be turned away, so if you are interested come along and join the biggest and best club in the area.
